How to replace audi key fob an audi a3 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

renault-logo-evolution.jpgYesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero Ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The audi car keys will start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. If you have any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the audi tt key fob not working's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is spinning. If the sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a standard part that is found across the Audi car key Holder 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
