This film depicts the terrorist attack (Munich Olympics incident) in which the Palestinian militant group "Black September" killed 11 Israeli athletes during the 1972 Munich Olympics, and the subsequent retaliatory operation against Black September by the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad).

Following "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan," Spielberg has set the film in modern times.

Criticized by both Palestine and Israel, this is Spielberg's most controversial and controversial work.
