I watched a movie online the other day, so I would like to introduce it to you.

Casino is a 1995 American crime film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro. It depicts Las Vegas in the 1970s and 1980s, when it was still under the control of the mafia, through a genius gambler.

It is based on the non-fiction book Casino by Nicholas Pileggi, and is largely based on facts and true stories. It is the second of Scorsese's "mob/mafia" films, produced following the success of Goodfellas, a 1990 film based on Pileggi's original work, directed by Scorsese and starring De Niro and Pesci.

The model for the character is Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal (hereafter "Lefty"; "Ace" in the film). Before coming to Vegas, Lefty was a famous bookmaker in his hometown of Chicago, but after living in Chicago and Miami, he moved to Vegas in the late 1960s and got a job at the Stardust, a casino that represents the Las Vegas Strip, through a friend's introduction.

Just like in the story, Lefty was the de facto boss, but with his criminal record, it was difficult for Lefty to get a license to operate a casino. Therefore, Allen Glick (played by Philip Green in the film) was hired to act as the public president.

Soon, Lefty was put in charge of the casino and rose to success.

Meanwhile, Anthony "Tony" Spilotro (Nicky Santoro in the film), a childhood friend from Chicago, is inspired by Lefty's success and moves to Vegas, leading to the collapse of the paradise on earth that Lefty built.

Evaluation

Rotten According to Tomatoes, the consensus among critics is that "Despite a familiar story that may seem like a safe bet for some viewers to Martin Scorsese, Casino pays off thanks to impressive enthusiasm and brilliant performances from an outstanding cast." Of 64 reviews, 51 reviews (80%) were positive, giving the film an average score of 7.17 out of 10. According to Metacritic, of 17 reviews, 13 were positive, 3 were mixed, and 1 was negative, giving the film an average score of 73 out of 100.

I think I saw this movie at the cinema when it was released.

At the time, mob and mafia movies were popular. Although this movie, Casino, is long, the background music and narration by the cast make it easy to watch.

Based on a true story, it depicts the connection and decline of Las Vegas and the mafia in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The background music is also a hit song from that time.

Roxy Music, The Rolling Stones, Nilsson, etc.
