In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are different pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing anymore. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU
